Build house-shaped book shelves
Â
This week I'm sharing a different kind of DIY. As I've mentioned before, I LOVE making things, all sorts of things, and almost nothing is out of limits for me. If there's something I'd like to make but I've never done that before, I'm definitely jumping in that pool fully dressed. That's how I roll, because ultimately what I really love is learning new ways to be creative. And woodworking is one of them.
Now, I'm not going to go out and say I'm a pro-carpenter because I can use some tools and I have built a few things. I'm far, FAAAAAAR from it... which is why I think anyone could learn to build these little house-shaped shelves. They're easy, they require minimal tools and materials, and it's a great addition to a kids room... or your room. (Never grow up!!)

A week in the life - Super Hero edition
Â
"A week in the life" is a new blog series where I will be sharing a little recap of what I worked on throughout the week. You will get to take a peek inside my studio, see what's new in my shop, from new colour combinations to entirely new products, and I will link to all of them so you can easily find them before they're gone!
I tend to work on my orders 'in series', so there will most likely be a predominant theme each week. This past week was definitely all about those capes! With Halloween fast approaching, super heroes around the world are looking to suit up and look the part... trick-or-treating is serious business.
Make a Birdcage hanging plant
Â
I have a confession to make. I kill plants. Not in a viciously intentional way, though. I try to keep them alive, but I don't know, its like they need water or something? I am a neglectful plant serial killer.
The problem is that I love plants. I love how much life they bring into a space, and how bright and green they are (when they aren't dying). So I keep buying them in hopes that one day I'll actually be good at it. And I am getting good at it...not at caring for them, but I'm getting good at buying plants that actually thrive on neglect. My hard work is paying off!
Cacti and succulents are my favourite by far, but they're not the only ones that can stay strong even under the hands of a forgetful owner. I'm not going to give you a lecture on plant species here, because who am I kidding? But if you are like me, Google them. There is a whole bunch of self-reliant, independent plants out there.
First day of GRADE 1... and how I can't let go
Â
Â
And so it begun.
I had such a hard time sleeping the night before. I kept tossing and turning in bed, and I woke up at 6 AM unable to go back to sleep. It wasn't that I kept thinking about her upcoming school day, but my brain would just not shut off. Every random thing in my to-do list for basically the rest of my life kept popping up in my head. It's like when you're going on a trip very early in the morning and you really need to get some sleep, so instead your brain starts thinking about everything you've ever said or done in the last decade and a half (or is that just me?).
School style... and how I'm an enabling mother
Â
School is just around the corner, and by that I mean less than 24 hrs 'till GO time, people!!
Can you feel the excitement!? Some days I feel like it's me starting Grade 1 all over again. I wonder what she's going to do on her first day, whether she's going to enjoy it or be nervous about it. It's almost like dropping her off on her first day of JK... when she just waved goodbye and walked into the school, and instantly forgot she had a mother (seriously kid? I had separation anxiety for weeks!). Well, Grade 1 is kind of like that, except she's a big kid now and I'm still a crying baby.
